As you know, I'm also not...I agree with Lauren. As you know, I'm also not an official donor yet (in a few weeks!), but I have gotten some wild reactions from people. Almost everyone asks "Why?", naturally, but I've gotten more than my fair share of 'Why's with a look of disgust and horror and "And I know I asked you 'Why?' but please don't tell me anymore." I completely understand why people would be thrown by it, but to be disgusted? Horrified? Doesn't make sense to me.

Like Lauren, I've also had one or two people hint at the fact that I'm just a 'do-gooder' looking for my next 'challenge' or a little attention. However, I've found that to be a rarity. Most people - especially those who know me - might not understand why I'm doing this, but they understand that it comes from only the best intentions and they know that this very much aligns with the type of person I am. Oddly enough, the people who have had negative reactions have been acquaintances - the ones with the most positive reactions have been family, close friends, and - get this - strangers!

Overall, I've had a very positive experience, as I know you've had, but I think we all have had at least one run in with those negative people. I say, ignore 'em and rock on!Melissahttp://considerthestars.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2579925097303089258.post-287308868618087422011-02-18T16:56:02.267-05:002011-02-18T16:56:02.267-05:00Well as you know I am not a donor (yet!) but I'...Well as you know I am not a donor (yet!) but I've had my share of reactions to the intent to be a donor. Everything from being called a do-gooder looking for attention (in a way that made me sound like I am the devil). I had someone else say to me "you don't do things like that. Donate money or your time but not your organs...you dont throw those away".

Its also just a hard thing to bring up in conversation because you either get awkward silence like you mentioned or it takes over the conversation/room. Either can be awkward!Lauren Hhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09608128317570165038noreply@blogger.com
